Short-Term Visiting Professor / Global Research Coordinator

- GCOE Program “Sustainability/Survivability Science for a Resilient Society Adaptable to Extreme Weather Conditions”

 

The Kyoto University Global COE Program “Sustainability Science for a Resilient Society Adaptable to Extreme Weather Conditions” (GCOE-ARS) invites applications for visiting professor/researcher positions. This newly adopted interdisciplinary GCOE program is promoted by a strong cooperation amongst the Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI), the Research Institute for Sustainable Humanosphere (RISH), and five Graduate Schools of Science, Engineering, Informatics, Agriculture and Global Environmental Studies of Kyoto University.

 

These are short-term positions with research emphasis on adaptation to climate change impacts, such as extreme weather and subsequent water-related hazards that seriously affect people and societies around the world. The successful candidates are expected to lead research and education relating to the GCOE-ARS Sustainability/Survivability Science based on social and natural sciences including disaster risk management, economics, policy, climatology, meteorology, hydrology, ecology, forestry, agriculture, water resources and coastal engineering, etc. He/she also has responsibilities for supervising the research and graduate students in DPRI and other institutes and departments involved. This will include facilitating on-the-job training of students in domestic/overseas research sites. The successful applicants will be expected to be in Kyoto for 1 to 3 months up to the end of March 2010.
