講演/Lecture

(1) Polarimetric Radar Observations of Tornadoes and Tornadic Debris by Bodine, David J.(University of Oklahoma)

Tornadic debris produce a distinct polarimetric signature, called the tornadic debris signature or TDS. The TDS is characterized by high reflectivity, low cross correlation coefficient, and near-zero or negative differential reflectivity. In this study, TDS parameters are developed to characterize the concentration and spatial distribution of tornadic debris. For 15 tornado cases, comparisons between the TDS parameters and the EF-rating are presented. The results show that TDS parameters tend to be correlated with the EF-rating, and may provide a near real-time estimate of tornado damage severity and extent.

(2) An introduction into Multicore CPU and GPGPU programming by Wim Vanderbauwhede(University of Glasgow)

The talk will introduce the basic concepts behind data-parallel programming on multicore CPUs and GPGPUs and in particular discuss the practical use of OpenMP and OpenCL. We will illustrate the use of both OpenMP and OclWrapper (a simplified OpenCL interface which we developed) with meteorological code examples.
